day 7 winds

Very much a north-south divide to the weather today across the country with the best of the weather to be found across much of central and northern Britain along with Ireland. Meanwhile, the frontal system that brought yesterday's rain across central and northern areas is now lying across southern areas, and looks like hanging around for the next 24 hours or so.

There has been some heavy rain overnight, notably over parts of Wales where the remnants of ex Tropical Storm Grace came through. This area of rain is now clearing through East Anglia and then all eyes will be towards the southwest as another area of rain looks set to move in later today. This area of rain looks like running along the English Channel coastline, bringing some locally heavy downpours in places. The rain then looks like persisting well into tonight as well, so bringing some very welcome relief for southeast England.

Meanwhile, most of Britain and Ireland will be dry today with plenty of sunshine, mainly from the Midlands northwards. There will be a few showers around across northern Scotland, and these will continue into tonight, along with that rain in the southeast. Meanwhile, under clear skies elsewhere, temperatures will fall sharply in many areas tonight, with a touch of frost likely in places.

Looking ahead, and Thursday will be mostly fine with plenty of sunshine after any remaining cloud and rain clears the southeast, and it will feel pleasant in the sun and with light winds. Friday will also be a decent day for many, but freshening winds, cloud and rain will move into western areas, heralding a rather changeable weekend.
