Day 6 -WET

day 6 winds

Some very wet weather is in store across some parts of Britain and Ireland today thanks to a number of weather fronts ganging up on us. Already this morning outbreaks of heavy rain are affecting parts of southwest England, Wales, northwest England and Ireland, whilst another band of rain is moving in across Scotland.

These two areas of rain will join forces today to form one main band of rain, probably ending up lying across southern and eastern Ireland, into northern England and parts of north Wales too. To the southeast of this, it will be a mostly cloudy day with some patchy rain around at times, and here it will be warm and humid with temperatures around 20C in places as we pull up a warm and moist air mass from the south. Meanwhile, skies will brighten across Scotland and Northern Ireland during the afternoon as the rain band slowly slips south, but here it will be much cooler with temperatures around 13C at best as colder winds come down from the north.

Attention is focused on this rain band as it does look like there will be some heavy rain at times as the system slowly sinks south. The rain will continue into tonight across Wales and central areas of England where it will be very mild, whilst clear skies to the north will allow temperatures to fall away here. What is giving us some concern, is the chance that the remnants of Tropical Storm Grace will get caught up in all this, potentially bringing some very heavy rain across some parts. We have a Weather Watch out for this, and will update later today once developments become clearer.
