Day 1 - fresh northerly.

day 1 winds

At long last, after a prolonged quiet spell of weather for many, changes are on the way, but not necessarily for the better. The weather front that has plagued much of Scotland so far this week is now on the move as it slips southwards across England, Wales and Ireland during the next 24 hours or so.

This front won't bring much in the way of rain with it however, just mostly light and patchy outbreaks. To the south, another dry day is likely, with a fair amount of cloud and limited spells of sunshine. Meanwhile, across Scotland it will be a much brighter picture with some welcome sunshine today, and just a few showers across the northeast. It will still be quite warm in the south, but much cooler air is coming into the north, with temperatures pegged back into the low teens at best across Scotland.

These temperatures will fall away tonight, with a touch of ground frost likely across much of central and northern Britain as skies clear. It will be cloudier and milder further south with a few light showers as that weather front continues to move through.

Early cloud in the south tomorrow will clear away, and then many areas will be cool and bright with good sunny spells. A few showers are likely in the northeast, and some of these could turn wintry over the highest ground for a time. Later in the day, cloud will begin to thicken towards the northwest, and this will be in advance of a developing low which will bring rain and strengthening winds for the end of the week and into the weekend. More on this tomorrow...
