Day 4 - calmer.

day 4 winds

Winds yesterday across many areas gusted in excess of 45mph, with some places reporting gusts of around 70mph, so it was a very windy day but nothing too out of the ordinary for October really.

The good news is that its a much quieter story today with the low that brought the gales now moving across Scandinavia. Meanwhile, a weak ridge of high pressure is set to bring better day for many areas. The north-westerly breeze will blow a few showers in across some western parts, and across the far northeast of Scotland, but for many it will be a dry day. Whilst many parts will see some sunshine, there will be more in the way of cloud around across southern districts of England with a weather front hanging around close to the English Channel. Temperatures will be close to normal for most parts, and feeling warmer than yesterday, but they will fall away quite quickly this evening under clear skies. A ground frost can be expected across many rural areas, with a touch of air frost in a few places as well - most likely across central and northern areas.

This takes us into a chilly start to the new working week, and a fine Monday for many. However, cloud will be building to the south and west with some rain likely towards southern England and parts of Ireland by Monday afternoon. This then heralds some potentially very wet weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, but confidence is low at the moment over where will see the wettest conditions. We will of course keep you up-to-date.
