Day 6 - Wet

Handy animated wind chart for next 60 hours  HERE

Sunshine and showers for the west during the morning, some possibly turning thundery. Further east, persistent and sometimes heavy rain should clear by lunchtime. Most areas will see sunshine later, but perhaps cloudier with blustery showers the north and west.

It may not seem like it this morning, but today will mark the start of a change as weather conditions begin to settle down with high pressure taking over for many areas by the weekend.

To start with though it is a pretty damp start to the day across much of England and southeast Scotland after rain moved in from the southwest overnight. It is a drier picture across northern and western Scotland, Wales and Ireland with some sunny spells, but there are some showers affecting western coastal areas. The more persistent rain this morning will clear away to the east to leave a mixture of sunny spells and showers across many parts, and some of those showers may be on the heavy side although they should generally ease away this evening. Temperatures will be close to normal, and feeling pleasant enough in any sunshine later on.

A dry and fine night will follow with clear spells and some fog patches forming, although a little more cloud with the odd shower may affect western areas. This means that Thursday will start off fine, and for many it will remain dry with sunny spells. However, a freshening south/south-easterly breeze will bring cloud into southern counties later in the day and perhaps a little rain in places too. This cloud will head further north, so that by Friday there will be more cloud around, and some rain may affect the far southwest. The risk of rain then continues through into the weekend over the far southwest, but for many it will be mainly dry and fine with south-easterly winds, and it will turn quite warm for a time too.
